1993 Mehboob- Most Efficient Handicapped Employee

Affected by leprosy when he was 15, Mehboob had to leave his native Bidar and come to Bangalore. Since he could not get a job, he had to beg for a living, and married a girl who also was a beggar. The police arrested them and brought them to Sumanahalli for treatment and rehabilitation. He worked in the gardens there and was most happy planting trees. Today, he is very happy to see those trees having grown big. Being uneducated, he joined our adult literacy class to learn to read and write. Sumanahalli placed him at NIMHANS where his relationship with his fellow employees was very good. His productivity was as good as that of his non-handicapped colleagues. Mehboob received his award for being Most Efficient Handicapped Employee on World Disabled Day in 1993.
