Despite our best efforts, integrating our cured inmates into mainstream society is an uphill task. That's why we set up our own manufacturing units to provide them a livelihood, a structured work setting and of course, crucially-needed income. Sumanahalli is proud of the fact that its inmates have received valuable training which helps them throughout their lives.

Several fabrication centers dotted around our campus are staffed by our incredibly-dedicated people. Not wishing to be a burden to their families and society, they enthusiastically work to produce goods that are of excellent quality, such as candles, paper bags, leather goods and garments. Just visit our campus and you'll be convinced that our system of imparting training and employment is a model that inspires and uplifts!

We thank the experts at the ILO, CLRI, NIFT and XIME for their assistance in setting up our manufacturing units and helping train our people.

2002: Kalyan Kumar- Best Self-employed Disabled person

Kalyan Kumar was a very illustrious person. Leprosy could not exhaust the flame of hope in him. His Masters Degree and the innumerable poems written and published by him are evidence of this. In order to settle down and gain independence, he asked Sumanahalli to organize an STD phone booth at the City Railway Station in Bangalore. It was inaugurated on the 8th of May, 2000 by Mr. Veda Murthy, Director of Disabled Welfare, in the presence of a large number of his friends and well-wishers. He was presented his award by President of India, Mr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on the 3rd of December, 2002.
