Sadananda came to Sumanahalli carried in by two leprosy-affected patients from C.L. Hospital, in a very sick state. He had to be given special treatment for his hands and legs. After he was cured, he was sent to Karigiri for reconstructive surgery on both his hands and legs, which took over a year. He had to learn a new trade, so he was put in leather craft training. Being very intelligent and gifted, he became a trainer himself. Sumanahalli helped him begin his own leather unit- "Udaya Leather Works". Since then he has started employing many of his leprosy-cured fellows.
